The future is bright for lab-grown diamond (LGD) producers, thanks to steady market demand and continuous supply of goods, according to Classic Grown Diamonds. Established in 2013, the company – part of New York-based Shashvat Diamonds Inc – has offices in New York, Hong Kong, Antwerp and London.
Classic Grown Diamonds’ transition to the LGD business is a success story, with the manufacturer establishing a solid customer base in major jewellery markets. Global Operations Director Shashvat Sadhani shared, “We have been producing lab-grown diamonds for close to a decade now. We were initially in the HPHT (High Pressure, High Temperature) natural diamond business and eventually switched to LGDs. It was a monumental shift.”
The company’s strength lies in the production of D- to G-colour lab-grown diamonds, including solitaires and small loose stones. Its lab-grown diamonds come with certifications from the Gemological Institute of America and the International Gemological Institute.
Sadhani said market appetite for 1-carat to 3-carat lab-grown diamonds in fancy shapes such as ovals and pears remains robust, with North America driving demand.
Classic Grown Diamonds also offers finished jewellery with lab-grown diamonds. Buyers can choose from a diverse selection that includes bridal jewellery, stackable rings, earrings, tennis bracelets, necklaces and pendants.
According to Sadhani, the lab-grown diamond business has expanded exponentially over the years and continues to gain traction in the international jewellery and gemstone trade. The sector however faces the challenges of building and preserving consumer confidence in lab-grown diamonds.
“The lab-grown diamond industry has emerged successfully from many other challenges in the past. For now, we need to foster confidence in the product. We should also avoid reducing prices,” noted Sadhani. “Buyers are assured of consistent supply of LGDs in various shapes and sizes to support the needs of jewellery manufacturers, providing ample growth opportunities for lab-grown diamonds producers.”
