Industry standards as well as sustainability and responsible sourcing will be among the central topics at the World Jewellery Confederation’s (CIBJO) 2024 Congress scheduled for November in Shanghai, China.
The annual event, slated for November 2 to 4, will be held in mainland China for the first time, according to CIBJO President Gaetano Cavalieri. Last year's session was held in Jaipur, India.
He noted that the event “will not only underscore the development and growth of the jewellery industry in this country and region of the world, but the way in which it is impacting the business worldwide and is changing the way that all of us consider, design, manufacture and sell our products.”
CIBJO congresses are where CIBJO’s sectoral commissions meet annually and introduce or discuss amendments to the organisation’s definitive directories of international industry standards for diamonds, coloured gemstones, pearls, gemmological labs, precious metals, coral and responsible sourcing – also known as the Blue Books.
Updates on initiatives of the World Jewellery Confederation Education Foundation (WJCEF) as well as activities related to CIBJO’s ongoing cooperation with the United Nations and its development programme could also be discussed.
CIBJO said Shanghai is the official gateway to China for jewellery and jewellery component suppliers and manufacturers, serving as headquarters of the Diamond Administration Centre of China, Shanghai Diamond Exchange, Shanghai Gold Exchange and Shanghai Gems & Jade Exchange, which is co-hosting the 2024 CIBJO Congress.
Pre-congress meetings will be held on October 31 and November 1, 2024.
