An International Gemstone and Diamond Trade Summit scheduled for December 10 in Macau will shine the spotlight on the city’s emerging role as a crucial gemstone trading and processing centre.
The first industry-wide global gemstone and diamond conference is jointly organised by the Shanghai Diamond Exchange (SDE) and the Macau • China Diamond and Gem Exchange (MDGE), and co-organised by Informa Markets Jewellery. It will take place from 5:30pm to 7:30pm (Beijing time) at the Venetian Macao Convention and Exhibition Centre.
The Macau gemstone hub, in partnership with SDE, is seen as a powerful engine of the Hengqin Guangdong-Macao Intensive Cooperation Zone – a masterplan that aims to create a dynamic environment for Macau’s industrial diversification.
The summit aims to highlight Macau’s investor-friendly policies and world-class infrastructure. Macau and the Hengqin Guangdong-Macao Intensive Cooperation Zone are viewed as a gateway for gemstone and diamond companies to the China market.
Powered by Informa Markets Jewellery, the physical-virtual conference is centred on the theme - “Gemstone and Diamond Trade Development, and the Advanced Trend of the Regional Industrial Chain Centre in the Post-Pandemic Era.” It will bring together influential government and industry leaders who will share their insights on Macau’s role as a global gem trading and processing hub.
The keynote speech, “Win-win Cooperation, Common Prosperity” - Gemstone and Diamond Trade Development, and the Advance Trend of the Regional Industrial Chain Centre in Post-Pandemic Era, will be delivered by Su Wei, chairman of MDGE. He will also talk about Macau's favourable investment policies and the potential for growth of the free trade and manufacturing zone.
There will be four “online venues” namely Shanghai, Macau, Bangkok and Hong Kong where industry representatives can have virtual discussions with MDGE.
An "interaction" with parallel session in Thailand with Chongjie Li of the Gems Jewelry and Precious Metal Confederation of Thailand and the Thai Gem and Jewelry Traders Association is scheduled for 6:45pm. Interaction with parallel session in Hong Kong meanwhile takes place at 7pm while the session in Shanghai happens at 7:12pm.
