Technological advancements are key to improved gem testing and evaluation, which is critical to sustaining consumer confidence in the jewellery trade.
Modern equipment is continuously developed to address evolving challenges and deliver faster, more accurate and authentic verification of diamonds, gems and precious materials.
Leading this wave of innovations is Trusure Apex – an advanced diamond screening instrument introduced by Gemological Science International (GSI) in collaboration with diamond detection solutions specialist Mindron.
Designed to detect natural and lab-grown diamonds (including CVD and HPHT varieties) as well as non-diamond simulants such as cubic zirconia, Trusure Apex is adaptable to diverse jewellery formats – from loose stones to mounted gems and intricate polki jewellery.
Trusure Apex has high-speed bangle and ring rotators that scan and deliver precise results in under 30 seconds, setting a new benchmark for precision and efficiency.
Other key features include an additional internal fluorescent light that ensures zero false positives; an advanced smart auto-marking technology for rapid, reliable segregation of stones; and 10x magnification, which enables detailed inspections.
Customisable data management, in-house certification options and single and quad screening modes also add an extra layer of flexibility and efficiency for jewellery retailers.
“The launch of Trusure Apex marks another milestone in GSI’s mission to drive forward gemmological research and provide cutting-edge solutions for the industry,” said Ramit Kapur, managing director of GSI India. “With its user-friendly design and reliable results, Trusure Apex provides retailers and manufacturers with the tools they need to confidently detect and differentiate diamonds at every level of the supply chain.”
Meanwhile, jewellery equipment specialist Gemoro continues to expand its suite of professional tools with applications spanning cleaning, testing and material analysis. A standout innovation is the XRF Gold and Precious Metal Analyser – a handheld, portable Energy Dispersive XRF Spectrometer designed for jewellers, appraisers, precious metal buyers and manufacturers.
Leveraging X-ray fluorescence (XRF) technology, it provides non-destructive analysis of the elemental composition of jewellery, coins and watches.
According to the company, the instrument analyses a 4mm-wide area to depths of 10 to 20 microns – significantly deeper than standard gold plating, which typically measures only 1 to 3 microns.
Presidium, another trusted name in gemmological instrumentation, offers the industry’s only handheld tester for coloured gemstones. Its latest model identifies up to 31 gemstone types based on thermal conductivity, with a new colour selection function covering 12 hues for more accurate results.
