Hong Kong’s exports of jewellery products were up 39.1 per cent year on year from January to June 2021 but the figure is still below export revenues recorded in 2019, latest government data revealed.
According to the city’s Census and Statistics Department, shipments of jewellery, goldsmiths’ and silversmiths’ wares rose 44.1 per cent in June compared to last year.
June figures when compared to pre-Covid 2019 meanwhile showed a decline of 2.46 per cent while first-half exports were down 14.7 per cent.
Overall exports during the first six months of 2021 increased by 30 per cent, the department said.
“The value of merchandise exports continued to grow strongly in June over a year earlier. Exports to mainland China, the US and the EU all accelerated in growth, while those to other Asian markets also expanded by varying degrees,” explained the government.
Despite encouraging developments in major international markets, a recent surge in Covid-19 variant infections could affect the pace of recovery, it added.
