The 13th IIJS Signature Gem & Jewellery Show attracted more than 15,000 visitors from 325 Indian cities and 55 countries, kicking off this year’s buying season.
Organised by the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), the fair featured over 700 exhibitors from February 13 to 16 in Mumbai. It was held alongside the 7th edition of India Gem & Jewellery Machinery Expo.
GJECP officials said international buyers flocked to the show amid the novel coronavirus outbreak and other global economic challenges.
Colin Shah, the council’s vice chairman, said the situation could improve by the second half of the year, benefitting the business sector. “Buyers have shown interest and have pre-booked orders at the IIJS Signature, which is a healthy sign for India’s diamond and jewellery exporters,” added Shah.
Organisers said the show mainly attracted serious buyers. One of the most visited areas was the Jewellery Start-Up Zone, which showcased women entrepreneurs and up-and-coming jewellery designers.
Other events held at the show include a business knowledge forum as well as the Artisan Awards and Design Inspirations.
GJEPC also announced that it is organising India Gem & Jewellery Show in Jaipur form April 1 to 3 April this year for international buyers.
