Meaningful self-expression lies at the heart of the colour palette for Spring 2024 as fashion designers at New York and London Fashion Weeks reach for rich, vivid hues and innovative interpretations of familiar tints for a soothing and personal feel for the season, according to the Pantone Color Institute.
In the jewellery world, these imaginative shades are captured in coloured gemstones, precious metals and various alternative materials.
London Fashion Week
The 10 standout shades in the Pantone Fashion Color Trend Report Spring 2024 for London Fashion Week (LFW) are an eclectic mix of vivid brights with rich nature-based tones that stretch the imagination. According to the institute, the palette reflects divergent consumer demands for colour to implicitly reflect their individuality and showcase their identity.
Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, said the LFW Spring 2024 palette underscores the desire for profound and meaningful self-expression.
“Both respectfully considered and hyper personal, this season’s colour’s move beyond the predictable to interact with each other in powerful ways. Drawn from daydreams of simpler times and at the same time showcasing contemporary modernity, a palette of colour where our unfettered desire for freedom and authenticity sets the rules and personal style comes without limits,” she explained.
In the LFW Spring 2024 palette, the atmospheric Horizon Blue denotes where the sea meets the sky, is best captured. Turquoise and larimar are among the gems that best capture the shades’ vibrant tone and refreshing nature. The deep green tone of the hearty and substantial Bistro Green finds its pair in emeralds and aventurines, among others, while moonstones and smoky quartz could provide the savoury and enticing earthy brown of Chutney.
Sapphires are the best bet for the boundless Strong Blue, while amber can replicate the strikingly exotic Spicy Mustard. Imperial topaz, spessartite garnet, fire opal and orange zircon are among those that can represent Sun Orange, which is reflective of a brilliant sunset.
Carnelian and red jasper, meanwhile, capture the fiery and impassioned red of Fiesta. Milky amber is a close match to the light yellow tone of Charlock, while morganite could reflect Burnished Lilac, a tinged and smoky lavender tone with a new sophistication. Finally phrenite, green chrysoberyl and prasiolite often embody the citrusy and fresh green of Tarragon.
New York Fashion Week
The Pantone Fashion Color Trend Report Spring 2024 for New York Fashion Week (NYFW), for its part, displays a palette with a hint of nostalgia but emboldened by transformation as the world embraces a more positive way of living.
Eiseman noted that colours for NYFW Spring 2024 inspire feelings of release, opening the imagination and enabling more inventive ways of self-expression.
“A harmonious mix of familiar shades infused with a contemporary edge, colours for NYFW Spring 2024 introduce a new interpretation of current times as memories of the past and a glimpse of the future bring hope for the present,” she said.
Rooibos Tea, a full-bodied red imbued with rich, woody notes, is best represented by Carnelian, while the peppery green of Watercress can be found in sphene, chrome diopside, aventurine, phrenite and prasiolite. The brightened denim Chambray Blue, which is infused with an easy vitality is captured in aquamarine; the mildly tangy red-orange of Orangeade, which comes with a fruity citrus touch, may be seen in fire opal and mandarin garnet; while peach moonstone, peach chalcedony and peach morganite capture the breezy air of Desert Flower, a warm and engaging pink.
The soft and powdery lavender of Pastel Lilac is captured in amethyst and kunzite. The aquatic blue Marlin is matched by sapphires, while milky amber provides the zest and tartness of Lemon Drop. Look no further than emeralds for the cooling mentholated green provided by Mint and reach for larimar, turquoise and perhaps even Paraiba tourmaline to produce the bright azure hue of Capri.
