Brilliant possibilities abound at this year’s edition of Jewellery & Gem WORLD Hong Kong (JGW), with exhibitors saying they met new customers while others reported strong buyer interest in innovative collections.
According to Celine Lau, director of Jewellery Fairs at Informa Markets Jewellery, the first two days of JGW at AsiaWorld-Expo (AWE) saw an increase in visitor numbers, compared to last year.
“Figures indicate the strong return of buyers from China. Exhibitors also report a more diverse group of international visitors at this year’s show. For instance, they mentioned seeing more Russian buyers as well as European visitors from countries such as France and Italy,” Lau shared.
Visitor pre-registrations from the US were however down, given current geopolitical tensions and tariff uncertainties.
Noting that many members of the gem and jewellery trade aim to diversify their markets, Lau said, “Part of our role is to help the industry explore new markets. The ‘Belt and Road’ countries, along with ASEAN (the Association of South East Asian Nations), are relatively more stable in the political and economic sense and offer better environments to help business thrive at present.”
Daniel Assaf, owner of New York-based Tsavorite Factory (USA) Inc, said he entertained new buyers from Europe and reconnected with existing ones from Japan and other countries.
“Meeting customers I do not see often and seeing other dealers and what they have at the fair – it is all very important,” remarked Assaf on the second day of the show's AWE section. “Traffic was good on opening day.”
Tsavorite Factory’s major markets are the US, Europe and Asia. The company also has an office in Bangkok, which mainly caters to buyers from Japan and Thailand. It is showcasing an expansive gem collection at AWE, led by a top-grade 41.5-carat Malaya garnet and vivid pink spinels from Mahenge alongside top-quality tourmalines, to name a few.
Meanwhile, Alexander Kreis, master gem-cutter at Germany-based Kreis Jewellery Gmbh & Co Kg, wants to meet quality buyers. The company has customers in Europe and the US and is planning to strengthen its Asian presence.
Kreis is offering resplendent gems in exceptional cuts, including Oregon sunstones, morganites and Paraiba and lagoon tourmalines, to name a few. A highlight is a single, elongated multi-cut aquamarine resembling gems grouped together.
“We expect to meet the right clients with whom to build connections. Asia is growing and the quality customers is improving. It is the market of the future, and we want to boost our presence here,” said Alexander.
Over at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, where the show's jewellery section is being held until September 21, jewellers are shining the spotlight on artistry and innovation.
Lume Creations Co Ltd’s Skyline Collection, for instance, is impressing fair visitors. Abhishek Rawat, director of Lume Creations, described the collection as an artistic interpretation of some of the world’s most iconic city skylines, transformed into wearable fine jewellery.
Each ring is meticulously crafted in 18-karat gold or platinum, set with hand-selected diamonds of E-F colours and VVS clarity grades, and gemstones. The pieces are designed to capture the spirit and architecture of beloved landmarks in Paris, New York, Moscow, Beijing and Dubai, to name a few.
“This collection has been well received in the trade. Our retailer clients find this design proposition very attractive,” explained Rawat. “It is refreshing and quite unique. We look forward to presenting it to more people and coming out with additional design options. I am waiting for someone to request Hong Kong.”
Innovative men’s jewellery pieces are also front and centre at JGW 2025. Victor Yiu, director of Zuri Jewelry Co Ltd, said this jewellery category presents brilliant business opportunities.
Zuri launched its new men’s jewellery collection, The Guardian Shield, at JGW 2025. Aesthetic elements of an armour are interwoven in the platinum or silver jewellery pieces such as shields and swords, conveying protection and strength.
The company also introduced its Love Lock Heart Collection in 18-karat rose gold with diamonds alongside some new transformable pieces.
“Buyers have tighter budgets amid ongoing economic uncertainties, so they are looking for something unique. They are happy to purchase innovative and intricate designs with compelling narratives,” said Yiu. “Versatile pieces that can be worn in various ways are on trend too.”
Yiu also cited a great deal of Southeast Asian buyers at the show.
