The Manufacturing Jewelers and Suppliers of America (MJSA) will become part of the Jewelers of America (JA) in a move aimed at streamlining and strengthening the US jewellery industry.
The boards of both organisations recently greenlighted the signing of an affiliation agreement bringing MJSA under the JA umbrella. The integration is happening in "the coming months," according to JA.
“The traditional lines dividing manufacturers and retailers have disappeared – both sides now face many of the same challenges as the recent tariffs have shown," said Edward DeCristofaro, chair of the MJSA board. “Joining forces will only strengthen our ability to advocate for our shared interests.”
The move will enable both associations to streamline connections between designers, manufacturers and retailers; and leverage their joint strengths to address pressing issues in the industry. MJSA can provide a direct line to necessary supplies, equipment and expertise given that more retailers are increasingly offering a wider range of goods, from branded lines to custom designs.
JA Board Chair Coleman Clark, for his part, said the affiliation will provide members with an expanded list of benefits.
Under the new agreement, MJSA will continue connecting businesses with providers of jewellery-making equipment, supplies and services, as well as with related educational and informational resources. An advisory board comprising many of MJSA's current directors will be established to provide ongoing guidance and input on key advocacy issues related to jewellery manufacturing and design, the organisations said.
MJSA was incorporated in 1903 while JA was founded in 1906.
