Umicore Metal Deposition Solutions has developed a new electrolyte for electroplating with pure platinum, which is applicable to jewellery products.

Named PLATUNA^® PT, the new electrolyte consists of 99.9 per cent pure platinum and enables the deposition of exceptionally thick, homogeneous and crack-free platinum layers. 

The company described PLATUNA^® PT as high corrosion and abrasion resistance, adding that the platinum coatings can improve the performance, durability, efficiency and effectiveness of technical applications or increase the sensitivity and accuracy of measurements.

PLATUNA^® PT, described as a benchmark for technical coatings by Umicore, is suitable for a wide range of technical applications. It can be deposited directly onto a carrier material such as titanium or nickel and produce a very thin and homogenous platinum layer.
