A trio of pear-shaped fancy colour diamonds were the stars of Christie’s Hong Kong Magnificent Jewels Spring sale, which fetched total revenues of HK$467.1 million (US$60 million).
Topping the charts was a 4.83-carat internally flawless fancy vivid blue diamond ring, which sold for HKD68.9 million (US$8.8 million), followed by an 8.92-carat internally flawless fancy vivid yellow-orange diamond ring named The Golden Flame. The ring was snapped up for HK$31.8 million (US$4.1 million), beating records for per-carat price of a fancy vivid yellow-orange diamond.
Meanwhile, a 4.08-carat fancy intense pink diamond ring fetched HK$31.2 million (US$4 million).
Christie’s Jewellery Asia Pacific Chairman Vickie Sek said the sale was well-received by collectors, owing to a diverse selection of colourless and fancy colour diamonds, and coloured gemstones. The auction was 84 per cent sold by lot, with half of the lots selling above their high estimates.
The results also attested to Hong Kong’s status as a thriving luxury jewellery hub, according to Sek.
“A trio of spellbinding fancy colour diamonds all incited enthusiastic bidding. Magnificent creations from prestigious houses including Bulgari, Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels garnered outstanding results,” she continued.
