Christie’s has appointed Emmanuel Danan as new global managing director of its luxury segment, jewellery included. He is tasked to oversee live and online auctions as well as private sales while working closely with specialist departments in New York, London, Geneva, Paris and Hong Kong.
Based in Paris, Danan was formerly president for Europe and the Middle East of Maesa, a Bain Capital Private Equity portfolio company, and general manager of L’Oréal Paris for Western Europe.
He is reporting to Francis Belin, president of Christie’s Asia Pacific. According to Belin, Danan joined Christie’s at an exciting time, following the auction house’s record year and growth across its luxury departments in 2022.
Luxury purchases are the major point of entry for new clients to Christie’s, and continue to drive the online sales platform, contributing more than half of all lots offered online, the company said. In 2022, the department achieved top prices for jewellery, including selling the largest white diamond ever offered at auction (228.31 carats) for US$21.7 million and The Fortune Pink, the largest pear-shaped, fancy vivid pink diamond ever to be sold at auction for US$28.8 million.
