Prices of fancy colour diamonds rose in the second quarter of the year, driven by robust demand across the value chain, data from the Fancy Color Research Foundation (FCRF) showed.
Prices in all colours and sizes demonstrated an average increase of 0.8 per cent, with those of fancy vivid diamonds across all colour categories rising by 1 per cent. Fancy and fancy intense categories meanwhile saw 0.7 per cent and 0.8 per cent price hikes, respectively.
Ishaia Gol, a board member of FCRF, explained, “It is evident that the increase in prices is driven by two market forces that have not occurred simultaneously in quite some time: That is, high demand for fancy colour diamonds on the retail side, and fierce competition on rough in tenders.”
Yellow diamond prices surged by 0.9 per cent in Q2 across all categories, followed by pink diamonds at 0.8 per cent and blue diamonds at 0.6 per cent.
