An international sustainability standard launched in 2021 by SCS Global Services for the jewellery industry has been expanded to include artisanal gold mines.
SCS, which has been providing certification services to the jewellery sector for over a decade, has partnered with the Alliance for Responsible Mining (ARM) to extend the SCS 007 Sustainability Rated Jewelry Standard to cover certification of gold from artisanal and small-scale mines (ASM).
With this standard in place, participants in ARM’s Sustainable Mines Program can have their gold independently evaluated under the SCS-007 standard and marketed to consumers as “Certified Sustainability Rated Gold.” Requirements address five key pillars...
