The Turkish Jewellery Exporters' Association is now a member of the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) – a significant step towards the group’s mandate to promote ethical and sustainable practices in its operations.
As an RJC member, the 1,348-strong association is expected to align its operations with the council’s standards on human and labour rights, environmental impact, mining practices and product disclosure.
“We are committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity and transparency in the jewellery sector, not only in Turkey but globally,” said association president Burak Yakın.
Şirzat Akbulak, manager at the Turkish Jewellery Exporters’ Association, underscored the growing importance of responsible and sustainable practices to consumers and stakeholders in the international jewellery trade. Being a member of RJC enables the association to contribute to these global efforts, he told JNA.
With its RJC membership in place, the association is aiming to enhance its collaboration with global industry leaders to share best practices and drive improvements in responsible sourcing and sustainability. It is also planning to provide its members with the necessary tools and knowledge to meet consumer demand for ethical products.
“We are making an effort to raise awareness of international standards and foster sustainable and ethical practices among our members. They are encouraged to become members of RJC as well,” Akbulak said.
