Gem and jewellery suppliers are reporting solid interest from professional trade buyers at Jewellery & Gem WORLD Hong Kong (JGW) 2024.
Mohsin Mansoori, director of coloured gemstone specialist Mohra (HK), entertained mostly buyers from Russia at the jewellery materials section of the show, which wound down yesterday at the AsiaWorld-Expo.
“Zircon was a particular favourite of Russian buyers. They were partial to zircons in the finest colour, mainly electric blue,” revealed Mansoori, adding that they also asked for rubies, sapphires and aquamarines.
First-time exhibitor Tundra Gems, which specialises in demantoid, touched base with buyers from China, India and the United Arab Emirates, among other markets that were partial to green gems.
According to Head of Sales and Marketing Alexandra Kuzbetsova, the company also met an Israeli designer of diamond jewellery who intends to introduce the gem in its market.
Australian blue sapphires were in demand at Navneet Gems Co Ltd. “Buyers from the US, Russia and Türkiye wanted these sapphires as they are readily available, have nice clarity and are less expensive than those from Madagascar and Sri Lanka,” said Navneet Agarwal, the company’s marketing manager.
At the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, Viktor Moiseikin, founder of his eponymous fine jewellery brand, also managed to make new, fruitful connections at JGW.
“We have met new clients from the US, Japan, Indonesia and the Middle East, to name a few. They were on the lookout for a variety of products – from bespoke jewellery to collectibles and art pieces. Since we offer a wide range of products, we can cater to specific buyer needs,” he said.
Buyers also fulfilled their objectives at the September Fair.
Liu Kunchung, manager of Taiwan-based manufacturer and retailer Turning Jewellery Co Ltd, was pleased with his finds at JGW. “I am on the hunt for certified diamonds of 30 points or below as well as high-quality packaging for our jewellery collections. I successfully found a Japanese packaging company with a factory in China and am happy with their craftsmanship and design,” he shared.
