Jewellery, Gem & Technology in Dubai (JGTD) successfully jumpstarted business in the international jewellery and gemstone industry when it opened its doors on February 12, 2023 at the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC).
The show’s highly anticipated second edition, which runs until February 14, is shining the spotlight on about 350 major suppliers from over 20 countries and regions – with a 46 per cent increase in net exhibition space from the 2022 inaugural fair, according to event organisers Informa Markets Jewellery and Italian Exhibition Group SpA (IEG).
JGTD also has a higher international representation, with about 75 per cent of exhibitors coming from overseas. It also features eight international pavilions under the banners of Brazil, Colombia, Hong Kong, India, Israel, Italy, Spain and Turkiye.
The B2B trade show is powered by DMCC (Dubai Multi Commodities Centre), JGTD’s Official Partner, and the Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group (DGJG), the fair’s Industry Partner.
David Bondi, senior vice president of Informa Markets in Asia, said the time is ripe for the trade to reignite businesses and connections in a post-pandemic environment.
“Much has changed since our inaugural edition last year. Borders have re-opened. Businesses have come back to life,” Bondi said at the show’s opening ceremony. “We are revived as an industry and ready to seize the many opportunities surrounding us. This is the reason why we are all here today.”
Also present at the opening ceremony were Italian Exhibition Group CEO Corrado Peraboni, Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council Executive Director Sabyasachi Ray, DMCC Executive Chairman and CEO Ahmed Bin Sulayem, DGJG Chairman Tawhid Abdullah and International Colored Gemstone Association President Clement Sabbagh.
Opulence and innovation
Buyers who are on the lookout for exceptional products have at their disposal an expansive range of finished jewellery and gemstones at JGTD.
Gemolithos is presenting a wide array of vintage and modern jewellery pieces as well as top-quality fancy colour diamonds and coloured gemstones. Headlining its product offerings is a 6-carat radiant-cut fancy intense green diamond ring.
Ioannis Alexandris, founder and CEO of Gemolithos, explained that the rare diamond possesses a homogenic colour that makes it all the more distinctive. The diamond has so far gained attention from high-profile buyers, demonstrating strong market interest for exceptional fancy colour diamonds.
Meanwhile, one-of-a-kind ceramic jewellery is taking centre stage at Alahmar Co Ltd. According to Fares D. Alahmar, founder and CEO of Alahmar Co Ltd, his company is the first in Thailand to produce ceramic jewellery using modern technology. At the fair, the company is unveiling a new collection that artfully melds ceramic with diamonds and coloured gemstones. The company is looking to do business with buyers from the Middle East.
