Professional trade buyers from the Middle East and beyond are fulfilling their sourcing requirements at Jewellery, Gem & Technology in Dubai (JGTD) 2024.

Neophytos Neophytou, president of the Cyprus Jewellers Association and general manager of NB Jewellery Ltd, is at the show to source for small, lightweight gold jewellery as well as jewellery-repair machines and lab-grown-diamond detectors. 

“I have also come across a Chinese company that produces gem-quality synthetic coloured stones. The Cypriot jewellery sector caters to both tourists and locals. Younger consumers are showing growing interest in lab-grown gems so it was good to see such products at the show,” he remarked.

Jewellery designer Yolanda Yara Cunjuca of Angola is on the lookout for coloured gemstones to set in her creations. 

By Yara, her brand launched in 2013, offers coloured gemstone jewellery in a market still largely dominated by diamond pieces. Her designs are based on her culture and are often dictated by specific gemstones in her collection. 

“My goal is to find coloured gemstones that will allow me to create different stories through my jewellery. I have come across a number of interesting coloured gemstone providers at the show,” she said.

Packaging options are also on Cunjuca’s shopping list. Additionally, the designer is walking the show to observe market and product trends that could inspire her further.

For her part, Svetlana Chussovitina, director of Goldberry Jewellery Products, is sourcing for fine jewellery for her 11 stores in Kazakhstan. 

Goldberry offers traditional, one-of-a-kind gold and silver jewellery pieces. It produces 90 per cent of its inventory in-house and imports the remainder from international suppliers from Italy, Russia and Singapore, among others. 

“I found new companies from Singapore and Sri Lanka that I can source from,” she said. “I am glad that JGTD brings together all jewellery-related products under one roof. I am also confident of the quality of the suppliers present at the show.”
