New-to-market jewellery collections featuring gemstones prized for their spectacular colours will be revealed at Jewellery & Gem WORLD Singapore (JGW Singapore) this September.
Presenting products across the entire jewellery value chain from September 27 to 30 at the Singapore EXPO, the show offers a first look at one of its most popular product categories – everyday and statement jewellery set with rubies, sapphires, emeralds, tourmalines, opals, jadeite jade and other coloured gemstones of the most extraordinary hues.
“JGW, previously known as the September Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair, is renowned for bringing together the world’s best jewellers and suppliers specialising in coloured gemstones,” said David Bondi, senior vice president of Informa Markets in Asia. “This is the B2B sourcing event where buyers can truly appreciate – in person – the creativity and craftsmanship required to show off the beauty of these precious materials to perfection.”
Reuniting international trade buyers with about 1,000 exhibitors from over 30 countries and regions, the iconic show is temporarily moving from Hong Kong to Singapore to make the venue more accessible to industry professionals eager for face-to-face networking. Singapore allows fully vaccinated visitors to enter the country without pre-departure tests, on-arrival tests and quarantine whereas Hong Kong still imposes mandatory quarantine, and pre- and on-arrival tests for incoming travellers.
Ruby, sapphire & emerald
To many, nothing compares to the splendour of a ruby, the allure of a blue sapphire and the captivating charm of an emerald.
Duang Kaew Jewelry Manufacturer Co Ltd of Thailand is debuting “Alyssa,” a ruby and sapphire jewellery collection painstakingly created by its team of designers, gemstone experts and craftsmen. Among its red carpet-worthy pieces are a ruby necklace containing 676 rubies (134.31 total carat weight) and 1,788 diamonds (22 tcw), and a flower-motif necklace with 724 blue sapphires (17 tcw), 229 tsavorites (4.7 tcw) and 148 diamonds (1.58 tcw). Some of the pieces feature sapphires in invisible settings, which create the illusion of a nearly seamless or solid gemstone surface without the interruption of precious metal prongs. Duang Kaew Jewelry uses precisely-cut gemstones that are set tightly next to each other and held in place by a hidden metal latticework underneath.
The company said it produces handcrafted jewellery in 925 silver, and 14- and 18-karat gold with coloured gemstones and diamonds. “We export to clients worldwide,” Duang Kaew Jewelry added. “For the Alyssa Collection, we only used top-quality rubies and sapphires, and every piece was crafted by our in-house artisans.”
A name that has long been synonymous with luxury jewellery, Diamrusa Ltd is revealing collections that celebrate the vibrant colours and beauty of gemstones. Among its must-see statement pieces are a sapphire and diamond necklace fit for royalty; classic rings with ruby, sapphire and emerald centre gems, and eye-catching necklaces with pendants flawlessly paved with pink, yellow and orange sapphires graduating from lighter shades of lemon yellow and soft pink to deeper hues of intense orange and reddish-pink. Designs may be bespoke, Art Deco-inspired or illusion-set.
“Diamrusa’s designs display simplicity and originality, presenting precious jewels in true harmony with colours and forms,” the Bangkok-based company said. In addition to high-end pieces, the manufacturer offers everyday jewellery in a wide range of commercial price points.
Alahmar Co Ltd is making diamonds and coloured gemstones shine even more in its innovative Ceramond Collection. Using modern high-quality ceramic materials in conjunction with gold and precious gemstones, the jeweller said it created “a product that stands out from traditional jewellery and appeals to the younger generation.”
“This is the future of jewellery as we see it,” Alahmar said. Its new introductions include ruby and diamond rings, and dangling earrings with black and white ceramics that appear to be sculpted on gold.
A second-generation family-run atelier, Bangkok-based Alahmar operates as an in-house OEM and ODM, an integrated private-label B2B manufacturing house that incorporates designing, prototyping, material sourcing and crafting, finishing and distribution of tailor-made fine jewellery for international retail projects and jewellery brands.
“Simply put – we are the jewellery maker of jewellers,” the company added.
The emerald, loved by many for its lush, verdant green colour, is one of the focal points of KGK Jewellery (HK) Limited’s showcase. Its noteworthy creations include a choker necklace with fancy-shaped Brazilian emerald drops hanging from a foundation made of round and fancy-cut diamonds, and a pair of chandelier earrings with oval-shaped Brazilian emerald and pear-shaped diamond clusters and sparkly danglers composed of diamonds and pear-shaped emeralds.
Scarselli Diamonds, a prestigious fancy colour diamond dealer, is displaying in Singapore an extraordinary collection highlighting the beauty of Colombian emeralds and fancy yellow diamonds – the Amazionia Set.
The handcrafted set consists of a necklace, bracelet and a pair of earrings adorned with pear-shaped emeralds and GIA-certified fancy yellow diamonds in 18-karat gold. It took Scarselli a year to acquire the emeralds needed for the collection, the company said.
A third-generation manufacturer of unique and high-end fancy colour diamonds, Scarselli is based in New York with offices in Hong Kong and Shanghai. Company operations are further represented in Johannesburg, Tel Aviv and Dubai.
Popular coloured gemstones
In addition to the “Big Three” of the coloured gemstone world, other much-loved gemstones in compelling collections are on their way to JGW Singapore.
Glamour Fine Jewelry of Taiwan is presenting art jewellery highlighting the black opal, one of the most magnificent gifts of mother nature. The gemstone is either fashioned into cabochons or spheres and used as centre gems for brooches and rings. Diamonds, fancy sapphires and Paraiba tourmalines complete the stunning array.
Shimada Co Ltd, which has been producing all of its collections in Japan since 1996, is likewise introducing a white opal jewellery set in 18-karat gold. Its large inventory also includes jewellery collections embellished with London blue topaz.
“All our products are made from Japanese bullion and are planned and manufactured at our own factory in Japan. We sell jewellery, made using high-quality natural gemstones, at factory direct-sale prices,” the company said.
Loved for its purple-blue colour, tanzanite is among the stars of Hong Kong-based Kowloon Trading Co’s latest product introductions. Among its exceptional pieces are fan-shaped drop earrings adorned with diamonds that contrast beautifully with fancy-shaped tanzanite gems, and collections set with fancy colour diamonds and other coloured gemstones.
Citrine, smoky quartz and amber are among the gemstones of choice of HMS Group of Korea, Smart Creation Limited of Hong Kong, and Silvam-Ex Sp. J and Gielo S.C. of Poland, respectively.
Samuel Kung Co Ltd of Hong Kong is presenting fine jadeite creations, including “Dragon” brooches with crescent-shaped jadeites edged with baguette diamonds and sapphires.
“A valuable coloured gemstone resource, JGW Singapore is offering an abundance of product introductions that can give buyers a sense of the big trends that will define the coming seasons,” said Celine Lau, Director of Jewellery Fairs at Informa Markets Jewellery. “This is the only B2B show in Asia this year where one can meet with multiple emerald suppliers from South America, ruby and sapphire dealers from Thailand and Sri Lanka, and fine gemstone cutters from Germany, to name a few, at one time and in one location.”
Segmented into 20+ show floor destinations spread across 35,000 square metres of gross exhibit space for easy navigation, JGW Singapore features pavilions representing the Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC), Colombia, Germany, Hong Kong, International Colored Gemstone Association (ICA), India, Israel Diamond Institute (IDI), Italy, Japan, Korea, Singapore, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Türkiye and the US, among others. Also not to be missed is the Premier Pavilion, a section that shines the limelight on exceptional and superbly crafted collections, and investment-quality gemstones.
The fair serves as a B2B marketplace for loose diamonds, coloured gemstones and pearls and other precious materials. It is also a launchpad for new finished jewellery products in styles ranging from contemporary to classic, and collections in popular categories such as antique, vintage and silver.
