A great deal of pearl traders are expanding their product offerings to include Tahitian pearls, owing to strong sales performance and bright prospects in the trade, revealed the Tahitian Pearl Association Hong Kong (TPAHK). This has led to an increase of over 5 per cent in TPAHK membership in the three-month period from June to August 2023.
TPAHK remains committed to sustaining growth in the Tahitian pearl market and promoting the beauty of these gems to the trade and the public through various initiatives.
In recent years, TPAHK has sponsored several international jewellery design competitions that encourage designers to feature Tahitian pearls in their creations. Winners get a chance to join a study tour to French Polynesia – the birthplace of Tahitian pearls. Additionally, TPAHK regularly disseminated market insights and exports statistics to keep industry stakeholders abreast of latest developments in the sector.
With the return of physical events post-pandemic, TPAHK has actively participated in major trade shows across mainland China and Hong Kong in 2022 and 2023. At the shows, it organised a series of promotional activities such as displaying award-winning Tahitian pearl jewellery pieces by renowned designers; and holding charity sales of Tahitian pearl products donated or sponsored by members of TPAHK.
The association likewise organised DIY Tahitian pearl jewellery workshops aimed at sparking creativity and nurturing greater appreciation for Tahitian pearls among attendees. To entice young talents to join the jewellery industry, TPAHK conducted career-planning seminars for secondary students to provide valuable insights into a career in the jewellery industry as well as an introduction to Tahitian pearls.
“With unwavering dedication to promoting Tahitian pearls and ensuring sustainable market growth, we will continue to ignite interest in Tahitian pearls by sponsoring activities and implementing effective marketing campaigns,” TPAHK noted.
