Ruby and emerald took centre stage at Christie’s Magnificent Jewels auction in New York on December 6, 2023. One of the top lots was a 7.31-carat Burmese ruby and diamond ring, which fetched US$1.13 million.
A ring adorned with a 9.13-carat emerald-cut Colombian emerald in 18-karat gold, meanwhile, sold for US$1 million, exceeding a projected value of US$200,000 to US$300,000.
At Bonhams’ New York Jewels auction held on December 4, 2023, an 11.87-carat loose Burmese sapphire fetched US$660,900, more than three times its pre-sale estimate.
