Established by the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), the Awards recognises excellence while envisioning a sustainable and technology-driven future. GJEPC Chairman Vipul Shah expressed optimism about the future of the industry, citing robust growth in the retail sector and government support as key drivers. The transformative potential of projects like the India Jewellery Park in Mumbai and the Gem Bourse in Jaipur could also boost growth. "Think big, innovate relentlessly and embrace technology – the future of India's gem and jewellery industry is brighter than ever," noted Shah. For his part, GJEPC Convener, Promotions & Marketing Milan Chokshi remarked, "The IGJA Awards celebrates excellence in India’s gem and jewellery exports sector, recognising the exceptional contributions of our exporters who continue to elevate India’s reputation on the global stage.” According to GJEPC, India’s gem and jewellery industry is a global powerhouse, contributing significantly to the country's economy. IGJA 2024 celebrated this success and reaffirmed India's position as a leading player in the international market. With US$32 billion in exports last year, the sector is poised to reach unprecedented heights, buoyed by visionary policies and international collaboration. Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani, who presided over the awarding ceremonies, captivated the audience with his vision for the industry. Advocating for a digital-first approach, he emphasised that “technology and sustainability are the twin pillars of our future.” Adani urged the industry to embrace innovation – from advanced manufacturing techniques to smart wearables – to stay globally competitive. He likewise called for the adoption of digital tools to empower artisans and craftsmen and stressed the importance of environmentally responsible practices. “Innovation and sustainability are not just trends but the foundations for the future of the gem and jewellery industry,” Adani said. The latest edition of IGJA honoured a host of deserving individuals and companies. Pramod Agrawal, chairman of Derewala Industries Ltd, received the coveted Lifetime Achievement Award for his invaluable contributions to the industry. Other notable awards were presented to companies excelling in various categories, including precious metal jewellery, cut and polished diamonds, coloured gemstones and more. A commemorative souvenir was unveiled at the event to honour Sabyasachi Ray, executive director of GJEPC, for completing 25 remarkable years with the council, reflecting GJEPC’s growth under his stewardship. IGJA 2024 was not merely a celebration of past achievements but a clarion call for innovation, resilience and sustainability, ensuring India’s gem and jewellery industry sparkles brighter globally.
