The 2023 edition had “indiamoderne” as theme, where the world of art served as inspiration for jewellery design in three categories: Art of Abstraction, Art of Sculpture and Art of Print. The competition attracted nearly 600 entries from India and overseas, with three awards given per category. In a glittering ceremony in Mumbai in May, Mahima Kothari took home the Art of Abstraction trophy, while Arunava Chakraborty and Bhautik Sakadasariya topped the Art of Sculpture and Art of Print categories, respectively. “While India’s global leadership in the gem and jewellery business is an established fact, we need to shape the future where India is revered for its aesthetic artistry, design innovation and commitment to exquisite craftsmanship,” said Vipul Shah, chairman of GJEPC. The 2024 Artisan Awards will explore the union of unconventional materials and collectibles with the allure of precious metals through two categories. “Objet Trouvé” (Found Objects) will see participants transform readily visible items into jewellery pieces, while “Unusual Materials” invites jewellery designs that seamlessly interweaves precious and non-precious materials. “To cater to the evolving demands of the global market, we need a fresh wave of young and talented designers who celebrate the preferences of millennial and Gen Z consumers. Their innovative approaches and creative sensibilities will shape the industry’s future trajectory,” Shah remarked.
