MARKET INTELLIGENCE 58 | JNA May/June 2022 GD Land 粤海置地 Guangdong Yuehai Land Holdings Ltd (GD Land) is spearheading its flagship project in the Luohu District of Shenzhen aimed at further bolstering the city’s growing reputation as a jewellery and gemstone hub. Aptly named Shenzhen GDH City, the large-scale initiative includes two Grade-A office buildings, apartments and a shopping centre, among others. GDH City is positioned as a strategic hub for Shenzhen’s jewellery and gem sector, serving as an avenue for industry players in the entire jewellery supply chain to operate seamlessly and form a community, supported by services available for the trade. A highlight of the 650,000-square meter complex is a sprawling office building, which is ideal for corporations’ headquarters in China’s jewellery manufacturing centre. It houses the Shanghai Diamond Exchange’s only diamond trading platform in South China and aims to provide support services to the yellow gold industry and accommodate jewellery businesses and clients from other industries. Baoku Private Vaults, a provider of private safety deposit box services, is the latest company to have signed a contract to operate in GDH City. Other prominent features of the facility are the TeeMall shopping centre and a Brewery Art District. According to GD Land, the residential buildings opened in the third quarter of 2021 while the rest of the establishments are scheduled for operations by the second half of this year. GD Land is also joining hands with the Luohu District government to promote GDH City. The project has been recognised by local authorities as a critical component of the district's creative digital industry. The Brewery Art District – the first of its kind in Shenzhen – will house an "experience hall" measuring about 14,000 square meters. Formerly known as Kingway Brewery, the area is considered a historical site and GD Land is aiming to preserve its cultural significance and role in Luohu’s heritage. The 2022 edition of Urbanism\ Architecture Bi-City Biennale of Shenzhen and Hong Kong aimed at promoting cultural exchanges between Shenzhen and Hong Kong will be held at the Brewery Art District.
