The rings, pendants and earrings that comprise the 12-piece limited collection are available in two different diamond and coordinating pearl sizes. Company co-owner Ray Mastoloni explained, “We have been watching this trend with interest for a few years now, which is why we created this limited collection with all pieces being laser inscribed and stamped LGD.” Number of quahog pearls belonging to a rare collection displayed at a Tucson gem show in 2023, the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) said in the Spring 2023 edition of Gems & Gemology. The round quahog pearls from ECIJA owner Aylene Norris and her husband, Jeremy Norris (Oasis Pearl), ranged from 5.65mm to 12.33mm in diameter and displayed a wide spectrum of colours from white and beige to deep purple and tan. Quahog pearls are non-nacreous or natural, making them among the rarest in the trade. GIA quoted Jeremy as saying that lilac and deep purple quahog pearls are the most desirable and command the highest price. This natural and cultured pearl and fancy colour diamond necklace by luxury jeweller Harry Winston sold for CHF6,458,000 (around US$7.3 million) in May 2023 at Christie’s Geneva. The exceptional necklace in 18-karat white gold features three strands of graduated natural pearls, one cultured pearl and a fancy light pink diamond of 11.15 carats. The town contributes 80 per cent and 70 per cent of freshwater pearl supply in China and the world, respectively, data from The Information Office of Zhejiang Provincial People’s Government showed.
