Industry Innovation of the Year – Technology When the diamond sector started experiencing a decline in production margins months ago, KGK Diajewels immediately identified the root cause of the industry-wide problem. Inefficient machinery had begun affecting the speed and quality of diamond manufacturing operations. Demonstrating its agility, the company developed three state-of-the-art machines with Gujarat-based Nishtha, a diamond processing machinery expert. Themachines, customised to address a specific set of needs in diamond manufacturing, led to the launch of Yantra, a brand focused on diamond manufacturing innovations. Sarva is a “hybrid” machine that compresses what used to be 13 different steps to six. It can also perform a wide variety of functions that were previously executed by five separate machines. Run by only one operator, this equipment also accelerates the production cycle by approximately 30 percent and lowers stone breakage by 25 to 30 percent. Similarly, Dhruva is an automated sticking machine that precisely fixes a diamond from both top and bottom. This trims down lead time and enhances accuracy.
