JNA Awards 2020 - Jewellery Industry Best Practices
26 JNA AWARDS 2020 Open to both sharing and receiving wisdom, Wong promotes cooperation – even among competitors. “Innovation is important. We should not take it negatively when others imitate what we have done. Rather, let’s take it as a chance to learn and to encourage each other,” he emphasises. Inspiring and insightful Wong has also earned the respect of his contemporaries in the trade as an active member of organisations like the Hong Kong Jewellers’ & Goldsmiths’ Association (HKJGA) Ltd, which he presides over as its chairman. There, he has spent the last 20 years in pursuit of game-changing innovations that would benefit the entire industry. For one, the organisation established the “Quality Gold Mark,” which is regarded as a seal of excellence among players in the gold and jewellery business in Hong Kong. HKJGA also applied for funding from the local government to develop an online training platform after noticing that small and medium enterprises (SMEs) lacked resources for honing local talent in Hong Kong. More than 4,000 users have benefitted from the platform since its launch in 2018. On top of these, Wong received several recognitions throughout his storied career. He was hailed “CEO of the Year/Luxury/Asia” at the 2016 International Alternative Investment Review Awards, and was named “Asia’s Best CEO (Investor Relations)” by Corporate Governance Asia in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020. Still, the gentleman who rose from ranks manages to keep both his feet on the ground. “Stay humble and be thankful. Having the right attitude is important in building meaningful relationships as you climb the ladder of success,” Wong says. 1. Kent Wong, Managing Director of Chow Tai Fook Jewellery Group 2.
