JNA Awards 2020 - Jewellery Industry Best Practices

JNA AWARDS • 2020 109 more than doubled its customer base from 2,500 to 10,000. It also became the official photography partner for many events and organisations, including Informa Markets, RapNet and AGTA. GemLightbox was also essential to the success of an online diamond trade show, wherein the gadget helped exhibitors present quality images and videos of their products online. Above all these, the GemLightbox, GemLightbox Turntable and GemLightbox Aerial have successfully accomplished Chu’s goals of providing over 8,000 jewellers with long-term, working solutions for their photography requirements – at a fraction of the usual cost. Dream big While the pandemic has hit many businesses in the trade, Chu notes that it has somewhat highlighted the relevance of companies such as Picup Media. “Our goal has always been to help our clients navigate the digital world. Now more than ever, that help is needed. Helping them journey towards digitisation with ease would help these enterprises continue their operations now and in the future,” he says. Chu’s decision to maintain a relatively mobile office early on has helped his team weather the pandemic. The company, which employs a pool of professionals from the Philippines, Hong Kong, Australia, India and the United States, has been working online for the most part – making it easier to adapt to the new work-from-home arrangements that the current situation requires. Still, Chu understands that many of their clients may not have been as prepared. To help them, he directed his team to focus on things that not even the pandemic could change: Connection and technology. “This crisis has been an opportunity to strengthen our relationship with our clients. We plan to expand our support team to further build on that excellent connection we have established with our customers,” he reveals. Chu has also led his company in efforts to create educational content that could provide ideas for jewellers on the road to recovery. Among the topics it has lined up are photography and e-commerce – tools of the trade that have grown much more valuable as online platforms continue to gain traction. With such lofty goals and accomplishments to his name, this JNA Awards Honouree shares his secrets to success. “Always have the heart to encourage people to take chances; always dream big and take bold steps in paths not commonly treaded, and always maintain an open mind for continuous learning and growth,” ends Chu. 1.
