JNA Awards 2012 Jewellery Industry Best Practices
42 JNA AWARDS 2012 K.S. Jewelry International Co Ltd Category: Industry Innovation of the Year – Manufacturing Country/Region: Thailand Thailand-based K.S. Jewelry International Co Ltd believes jewellery making is both art and science. While creativity lays the foundation for each jewellery piece, technology is what really brings the work of art to life. The company, which maintains offices in Thailand and Germany, has always been driven by the passion to innovate. Its founder and managing director, Klaus Stenzhorn, is the visionary behind the brand’s avant-garde “breathable jewellery” line, the Stenzhorn 2nd Skin, which has created quite a stir in the jewellery industry for its revolutionary aesthetics and texture. Instead of just adorning its wearer, a Stenzhorn 2nd Skin jewellery piece gracefully moves with its wearer as if it were a second skin. The secret is in the CNC technology, which the 33-year-old company has perfected after years of research and experimentation, Stenzhorn said. “Our company has always had the philosophy of making beautiful yet very technically demanding jewellery pieces. Nearly three decades ago, K.S. Jewelry was the first to make flexible bracelets and necklaces with almost invisible settings,” said Stenzhorn. “It was a great collection. Many buyers found it fresh and interesting, but the perfectionist in me wanted to develop an even better collection.” Value proposition Stenzhorn experimented with diverse materials, and over time his curiosity and determination resulted in a cutting-edge collection that has been gracing international shows and fashion magazines since it launched earlier this year. Stenzhorn 2nd Skin features diamonds and coloured gemstones mounted on a very thin, flexible frame, which allows the piece to swing and sway with the wearer.
