26 JNA AWARDS 2012 Wonder of the World This Award is given to a rare and precious gem material at the September Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair 2012 which is deemed to be worthy of the ‘Wonder of the World’ title. This category is only open to exhibitors at the AsiaWorld-Expo location of the September Hong Kong Fair. Judging for this category was conducted on September 17, with gem experts Susy Gübelin of Gübelin Gem Lab and Tom Moses of GIA serving as advisors to the judging panel. Judging Criteria: 1) The entry piece must be of natural gem material, including diamonds, coloured stones and other organic gem materials, eg pearls, coral and amber. 2) The entry piece must be cut and/or polished, but unset. 3) The entrant guarantees that no enhancement (other than cutting and polishing as indicated in Item 2, above) has been made to the entry piece. 4) The entrant guarantees its total rightful ownership of the entry piece. 5) Entry pieces chosen for final judging need to be displayed prominently at the entrant’s booth throughout the September Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair 2012 at the AsiaWorld-Expo. Judging Advisors: SUSY GÜBELIN Gübelin Gem Lab Susy Gübelin has been with the Gübelin Gem Lab for more than 25 years. She has vast expertise in all types of gemstones, and has had the privilege of analysing a considerable number of the rarest and most famous gemstones over the years. THOMAS M. MOSES GIA Senior Vice President Laboratory and Research Thomas M. Moses is one of the world’s most respected and accomplished gemmologists. Moses has headed some of GIA’s most critical identification and research projects and co-authored many articles for the Institute’s award-winning journal, Gems & Gemology . In October 2005, he was named Senior Vice President of the GIA Laboratory and Research. Two years later, he was awarded the 8th annual American Gem Society (AGS) Triple Zero Award.
