A pair of fancy vivid orange-yellow diamond earrings was the star of Christie’s Hong Kong Magnificent Jewels Autumn Auction, which raked in a total of HK$467 million (around US$60 million).
The earrings, which featured two oval-shaped fancy vivid orange-yellow diamonds weighing 12.20 carats and 11.96 carats, sold for HK$62 million (around US$8 million), well within the US$6.5 million to US$10 million pre-sale estimate.
Other highlights of the October 29 sale included an oval-shaped Burmese ruby and diamond necklace, which fetched US$6.46 million; and a marquise-cut fancy vivid blue SI2 diamond ring by Cartier, which was snapped up for US$3.02 million.
Meanwhile, all white and coloured diamond lots as well as jadeite pieces were sold, demonstrating a robust demand for exceptional pieces in the market, Christie’s revealed.
According to Christie’s, 92 per cent of lots were sold, with 52 per cent exceeding high estimates. The top 10 pieces were purchased by Asian private collectors, reflecting strong interest from this demographic.
“This outstanding performance cements Christie’s leadership in the Asia jewellery market in 2024, as the category saw a 160 per cent increase in new buyers in live sales versus autumn 2023,” Christie’s said.
