A diverse selection of Akoya, South Sea and Tahitian pearls alongside finished pearl jewellery pieces are expected to impress buyers this September at Asia’s biggest B2B sourcing destination of the year – Jewellery & Gem WORLD Singapore (JGW Singapore).
The event, scheduled for September 27 to 30 at the Singapore EXPO, will bring together international buyers and about 1,000 exhibitors from more than 30 countries and regions, including major suppliers of Akoya, South Sea and Tahitian pearls.
Buyers have at their disposal a diverse and carefully curated selection of finished pearl jewellery and loose goods, including parcels, strands, pairs and single gems.
P&J Co Ltd of Japan for instance is debuting its contemporary line of Akoya pearl jewellery – a perennial favourite among trade buyers looking for pieces that meld classic and modern designs. The collection includes an 18-karat gold necklace with Akoya pearls divided into sets of threes and interspersed with gold rondelles, a minimalist-style open gold bangle with Akoya pearl end caps, and earrings with Akoya pearls that seem to magically float on gold hoops.
OP Trading Co Ltd meanwhile hopes to impress Southeast Asian buyers with its rich assortment of Japanese Akoya pearls, and white and golden South Sea pearls from Australia and Indonesia, which are presented either loose or semi-finished as strands. Its inventory includes Akoya pearls, designated as “Tennyo” pearls by the Pearl Science Laboratory of Japan, and South Sea pearls with “Phoenix” and “Chakin” designations.
Kuwayama Corporation is likewise aiming to delight buyers with its inventory of golden South Sea pearls, which the company said were cultured in Japan, and high-quality “Tennyo” and “Hanadama” Akoya pearls with accompanying certificates, to name a few. Also anticipated to get a lot of attention at JGW Singapore are Nagahori Corp’s heart-shaped golden South Sea pearls, and its broad selection of Akoya, South Sea and Tahitian pearls – presented as loose goods, strands and finished jewellery.
“We are delighted to welcome back major pearl suppliers to the September Fair as our industry rebuilds,” said David Bondi, senior vice president of Informa Markets in Asia. “In addition to pearls, the jewellery materials section of the show will feature diamond and coloured gemstone zones. Exhibits are grouped by product category to help buyers customise their visit and make the most of their Singapore trip.”
Previously known as the September Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair and widely regarded as the epicentre of the jewellery trade, the September Fair is temporarily relocating from Hong Kong to Singapore – a bold and strategic move that aims to make the show venue more accessible to industry stakeholders eager to connect face to face. Singapore allows fully vaccinated visitors to enter the country without pre-departure tests, on-arrival tests and quarantine whereas Hong Kong still requires incoming travellers to quarantine and take pre- and on-arrival tests.
Prior to the Singapore show, a special-edition fair will be held in Hong Kong from September 16 to 19 catering to local trade buyers and jewellery lovers. The full-scale version of JGW will return to Hong Kong in September 2023.
