A wide array of coloured gemstones such as "Pigeon’s Blood" Burmese rubies, jadeites and Kashmir sapphires will lead Christie’s Magnificent Jewels Autumn Auction scheduled for November 28 in Hong Kong.
Golconda diamonds from exhausted mines will also be featured at the sale, according to the company.
“Only the most perfect rubies of exceptional saturation and natural red fluorescence can be classified as ‘Pigeon’s Blood,’ and any such ruby over 5 carats is a cause for celebration due to the continued decreasing production of significant sized stones from the mines of Burma,” remarked Christie’s.
The star of the auction is an 8.11-carat “Pigeon’s Blood” Burmese ruby and diamond ring, with pre-sale estimates of HK$24 million to HK$35 million (around US$3 million to US$4.5 million). This is complemented by a pair of “Pigeon’s Blood” Burmese ruby and diamond earrings of 5.19 and 5.03 carats, respectively, valued at HK$22.8 million to HK$33.8 million (around US$2.9 million to US$4.3 million).
Also on offer is a Kashmir sapphire and diamond bracelet, which is expected to fetch HK$17.5 million to HK$25 million (around US$2.2 million to US$3.2 million); and a carved jadeite and ruby pendant necklace, estimated to sell for HK$25 million to HK$35 million.
Diamonds from the legendary mines of Golconda will also be presented at the auction, including a 10.63-carat D-colour internally flawless diamond ring, which could sell for HK$10 million to HK$15 million (around US$1.3 million to US$1.9 million); and a pair of D-colour internally flawless diamond earrings weighing 5.10 and 5.02 carats, respectively, with pre-sale estimates of HK$8.5 million to HK$12 million (around US$1.1 million to US$1.5 million).
