Pink, red, violet and blue diamonds from the iconic Argyle mine are being showcased to collectors in Asia ahead of Rio Tinto’s penultimate Argyle Pink Diamonds tender later this year.
Now on display in Singapore, the 2020 collection of 62 lots is headlined by a 2.24-carat fancy vivid purplish-pink diamond named Argyle Eternity™ – the largest fancy vivid round brilliant diamond ever offered at Rio Tinto’s annual sale, the miner revealed.
Demand for such diamonds is on the rise in Asia, with buyers increasingly putting a premium on rarity, said Patrick Coppens, Rio Tinto’s general manager of sales and marketing.
Argyle Eternity™ belongs to a group of six “hero” diamonds, which also includes Argyle Ethereal™, a 2.45-carat square radiant fancy intense purple-pink diamond; Argyle Sakura™, a 1.84-carat pear-shaped fancy vivid purplish-pink diamond; Argyle Emrys™, a 0.43-carat princess-cut fancy deep grayish-violet blue diamond; Argyle Skylar™, a 0.33-carat heart-shaped fancy dark gray-violet diamond; and Argyle Infinité™, a 0.70-carat oval fancy dark violet-gray diamond.
Another highlight of the tender is “The Petite Suites” collection, comprised of 12 lots of “carefully curated and never-to-be-repeated” sets of miniature Argyle pink, red, blue and violet diamonds, weighing a total of 13.90 carats. It took five years to curate this collection, according to Rio Tinto.
The 2020 Argyle Pink Diamonds Tender is being showcased in Perth, Singapore and Antwerp with bids closing on December 2, 2020.
Rio Tinto’s Argyle diamond mine in Western Australia is virtually the world’s sole source of pink, red, violet and blue diamonds. Mining at Argyle concluded on November 3, 2020 after 37 years of operations.
A final tender will take place in 2021 based on the 2020 production from Argyle.
