The World Gold Council (WGC) recently named precious metals industry specialist Randy Smallwood as its new chairman.
Smallwood, currently president and CEO at Wheaton Precious Metals Corp, succeeded Dushnisky of AngloGold Ashanti.
According to WGC, Smallwood was involved in the founding of Wheaton, and was appointed president in 2010 and CEO in 2011. He is also the chairman of the board for Special Olympics BC, a member of the board of Minerals Ed BC, and previously on the board of the BC Cancer Foundation.
In 2015, he received the British Columbia Institute of Technology Distinguished Alumni Award, and in 2019, he was granted Business in Vancouver’s BC CEO of the Year Award in the enterprise category.
Smallwood commented, “There is no better industry body to advocate the case for gold than the WGC, which has worked tirelessly to grow gold’s recognition as an essential allocation within any investment portfolio, while at the same time nurturing the more traditional demand segments."
