Russian miner Alrosa generated a total of US$10.3 million from the sale of special-sized rough diamonds or those of over 10.8 carats in Hong Kong.
The company sold 112 gem-quality rough diamonds with a total weight of 1,910 carats, with buyers from Hong Kong, India, Israel, Belgium, the UAE and Russia taking part in the auction.
Evgeny Agureev of Alrosa noted that the positive auction result confirmed the Asian market’s solid interest in Alrosa diamonds amid a challenging market situation.
“Hong Kong is one of the most important centres of international diamond trade, so we regularly organise rough diamond sales here. The next auction will be held on the sidelines of the September Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair. We also plan to hold the second True Colours auction for fancy colour diamonds at the show,” he added.
Alrosa has scheduled three international auctions in Hong Kong in 2019, with the first two sales having raked in total revenues of more than US$20 million.
