Thailand’s export-oriented jewellery industry is regaining momentum as international orders return and manufacturers forge ahead with leaner yet more efficient production lines resulting from pandemic-related adjustments. In the first two months of 2022, the country’s gem and jewellery exports doubled over the same period last year to reach US$2.07 billion, according to data from Global Trade Atlas compiled by the GIT (The Gem and Jewelry Institute of Thailand) Information Center. While encouraging, this was still lower than the pre-pandemic results of US$2.18 billion in 2019 and US$3.74 billion in 2020.
