Earthy tones and neutral colours such as muted terracotta, aquatic green and rich brown alongside a few carefully considered vivid shades are shaping a new chromatic balance in the upcoming Autumn/Winter fashion collections, according to the Pantone Color Institute.
Pantone, the global authority on colour and provider of professional colour standards for the design industries, recently released the Pantone® Fashion Color Trend Report Autumn/Winter 2026/2027 edition for the New York Fashion Week (NYFW). The trend forecasting and colour consultancy firm publishes the report for the fashion industry.
According to the institute, Autumn/Winter 2026/2027 colours strike a balance between restrained opulence and modernity. The palette creates a colour duality by bringing together earthy tones and neutrals with daring and outspoken vivid shades.
“By contrasting reassuring colours imbued with understated ease with vivid tones whose dynamic verve strikes a discordant note within an autumn/winter palette, the season highlights a reverence for authenticity while simultaneously capturing a desire to indulge in limitless creativity,” the institute said.

The report features top 10 standout colours as well as five new core classics that will most likely figure in fashion designers’ latest collections.
The colour palettes include Muted Clay (rustic terracotta), Neptune Green (aquatic green), Green Envy (earthy green), Arabian Spice (piquant brown), Foxglove (muted pink infused with mauve), Festival Fuchsia (purplish pink), Red Mahogany (red-toned brown), Acacia (green-infused yellow), All Aboard (vibrant maritime blue) and Burnt Olive (richly layered green tone).
The five new classics, meanwhile, include Egret (creamy white), Candied Ginger (smooth warm neutral), Toffee (tasty brown), Underworld (mid-tone gray) and Poseidon (meditative ocean blue).
In the jewellery world, a rich assortment of coloured gemstones and fancy colour diamonds bear these captivating colours, including alexandrites, peridots, spinels, morganites and purple sapphires, among others. Grey and brown diamonds, smoky and lemon quartzes and citrines also infuse jewellery designs with a sophisticated, earthy tone.
