Opaque gemstones are the stars of luxury jewellers’ latest collections, demonstrating these gems’ exceptional appeal and rising consumer appetite for individuality and diversity.
French jewellery brand Van Cleef & Arpels recently unveiled its new Pâquerette Collection, featuring three striking rings adorned with different combinations of ornamental stones, namely blue turquoise with bright red coral, deep onyx with verdant malachite, and blue agate with white mother-of-pearl.
Each of these rings is bordered with golden beads in the silhouette of a daisy – a signature motif of the maison.
“As an echo to nature’s vitality, the Pâquerette rings offer a graphic and colourful interpretation, which blends golden beads and ornamental stones,” the brand stated.
Italian jeweller Roberto Coin likewise celebrated opaque gems in its latest offerings, including lapis lazuli, turquoise, malachite and black jade. Inspired by floral decorations in Venetian palaces, the Princess Flower Collection displays 18-karat gold rings, bracelets, earrings, pendants with diamonds and a variety of opaque gems.
Meanwhile, Chinese jewellery brand MidnightOperaHouse partnered with Gemfields to launch the enchanting Floral Seasonscape Collection. It comprises a convertible necklace and two pairs of earrings, showcasing the deep green sparkle of Gemfields’ Zambian emeralds contrasting with the mysterious allure of black agate.
The Window Harbors Autumn Blooms earrings, for instance, were crafted with a base of natural black agate, embellished with 16 round-cut Zambian emeralds, gold sand and hand-carved mother-of-pearl.
