Brown and beige gems will shine brighter in 2025 as Pantone names Mocha Mousse its colour of the year.

Described as an evocative soft brown, the rich and comforting hue alludes to the delectable qualities of chocolate and coffee, answering the desire for comfort during turbulent times.

“Underpinned by our desire for everyday pleasures, Pantone 17-1230 Mocha Mousse expresses a level of thoughtful indulgence,” said Pantone Executive Director Leatrice Eiseman. “Sophisticated and lush, yet at the same time an unpretentious classic, it extends our perceptions of the browns from being humble and grounded to embrace aspirational and luxe.”

The warming brown shade is infused with subtle elegance and earthy refinement, presenting a discrete and tasteful touch of glamour. Mocha Mousse finds harmony and balance between the demands of modernity and the timeless beauty of artful creation, according to the colour authority.

In the fine jewellery world, the tastefully nurturing yet sophisticated aura of Mocha Mousse is captured in brown diamonds, citrine, smoky quartz, brown sapphires, calcedony and jasper, among others. These gems can stand their own in jewellery creations, provide the on-trend neutral in brighter colour combinations of pinks and oranges, balance the vibrancy of blues and purples or exude sophistication in a palette of browns, blues and greys.  

Refined wooden accents likewise reinforce Mocha Mousse’s organic nature. Materials such as mother-of-pearl, enamel, ceramic and crystal can come in this colour as well, while rose gold and other precious metal variations offer a solid foundation too.
