A diamond-studded golden sculpture of the world’s happiest animal, the quokka, clutching a leaf pendant set with 2.99 carats of Argyle Pink Diamonds™ is the latest limited-edition creation by Australian luxury jeweller, Linneys.
The series of three Argyle Pink™ Quokkas celebrates Western Australia’s icon, the quokka, a rare animal found only on the shores of the region’s Rottnest Island, and pink diamonds mined from the now-closed Argyle Diamond Mine. The collector piece costs over AU$500,000 (around US$340,000).
Composed of 280 grams of 18-karat yellow and rose gold, the quokka has a total of 3.39 carats of Argyle pinks and a total of 10.96 carats of white and Argyle champagne diamonds. The detachable 18-karat rose gold leaf design set with Argyle Pink diamonds forms a necklace when suspended on its 18-karat rose gold chain with 0.62 carats of bezel-set white diamonds. Pink diamonds weighing a total of 0.40 carats further adorn the quokka’s ears.
The Argyle Diamond Mine in Western Australia's remote East Kimberley region has been the primary source of rare pink diamonds since it began operations in 1984. Although the mine ceased production in 2020, its legacy endures through the remarkable gems it had produced, with less than 0.1 per cent of total production being pink diamonds. Linneys has been an Argyle Pink Diamonds Select Atelier™ for several decades. Its latest creation, Argyle Pink™ Quokka, is available for viewing by appointment, the company noted.
