Coloured gemstone companies are upping the game with the launch of innovative products in the international market.
Thailand-based gemstone manufacturer and wholesaler World Corundum Co Ltd has unveiled its first selection of calibrated Mozambique rubies.
Available in rich and medium red, and a pinkish hue, and in sizes of 5mm by 4mm, 6mm by 4mm and 6mm by 5mm, these oval-shaped Mozambique rubies are meticulously cut and selected to meet a rising demand for calibrated rubies, according to the company.
Tarnan Pattaratara, general manager of World Corundum, explained that jewellery manufacturers wanting to produce sizeable jewellery collections would often go for calibrated Burmese rubies, which the company also offers. With the introduction of its calibrated Mozambique rubies, jewellers now have more options to choose from.
He also cited the challenge of grading Mozambique rubies due to the diverse shades and quality that they exhibit. Pattaratara remarked, “It takes time to collect a selection of high-quality rubies with consistent colours.”
Meanwhile, Fuli Gemstones of China is now offering its new Aura Cut for peridots, which is achieved using a modern cutting technology. The unique cut features a total of 101 facets – 37 on the crown and 64 on the pavilion. It was given the name Aura to reflect the fresh and positive energy that peridots emit, according to the company.
Fuli Gemstones, custodian of the largest known peridot mine in the world – the Yiqisong Nanshan mine located in the foothills of the Changbai Mountains in China – earlier said it is targeting to provide more than 50 per cent of the world's peridot supply with the opening of its mine this year.
