A new online diamond tender scheduled for December 2023 will shine the spotlight on two Lulo diamonds weighing more than 200 carats.
The auction, hosted by the Angolan National Diamond Trading Co (Sodiam) and organised by Trans Atlantic Gem Sales in Luanda, Angola, will feature 20 single stones, headlined by diamonds of 235.47 carats and 208.78 carats, respectively, from the Lulo diamond mine in Angola.
Viewings are scheduled between December 4 and 7 at Sodiam’s office in Luanda while electronic bid submissions will be accepted until December 8.
The sale exclusively targets Sodiam-registered customers specialising in diamonds of 10 carats and above. Apart from the two hero lots, these will also be offered at the auction: Four single stones from Lulo; one single stone from Chitotolo; two single stones from Somiluana; and 13 single stones from Uari. All the diamonds are over 10.80 carats.
Established in November 1999, state-owned Sodiam markets Angola’s diamond mining output from 17 kimberlite and alluvial productions. In 2022, Sodiam exported around 9.2 million carats worth nearly US$2 billion or an average per carat price of US$214. This positioned Angola as the world’s third largest rough diamond producer in value terms, the company said.
