De Beers’ Tracr Ltd and Sarine Technologies Ltd are developing a new system to track diamonds from source to point of entry into Group of Seven (G7) countries.
Combining elements of the Tracr platform and Sarine’s Diamond Journey™ traceability programme, the Tracr-Sarine solution is designed to verify and trace diamonds entering G7 and other countries using a dedicated digital portal.
Tracr is a diamond blockchain platform that enables registration of rough diamonds at source while Sarine is a major provider of precision technologies spanning the entire diamond pipeline.
The collaboration will utilise Sarine’s ability to perform objective verification of a diamond’s journey from rough to polished using verifiable data, which is uploaded onto the Tracr platform. The digital platform will then host a dedicated customs portal to be used by government officials from the G7 and other countries.
Sarine Technologies CEO David Block said this partnership could result in a higher volume of diamonds undergoing data-based verifiable traceability. He added, “The synergy created by a solution that uses Sarine and Tracr’s complementary capabilities was the natural next step for traceability and transparency in the diamond industry.”
Wes Tucker, Tracr CEO, meanwhile, remarked that the digital diamond traceability solution could play a key role within the inclusive framework of the G7 Diamond Protocol facilitated by the World Diamond Council.
