Prices of fancy colour diamonds increased in the first quarter of 2023, led by solid market demand for yellow diamonds, revealed the latest data from the Fancy Color Research Foundation (FCRF).
The Fancy Color Diamond Index (FCDI) showed a 1.3 per cent increase in fancy colour prices across all colours and sizes in Q1 2023 compared with Q4 2022 while year-on-year figures were up a 4.1 per cent rise.
Fancy vivid diamonds across all colour categories saw the highest improvement at 1.7 per cent while fancy intense and fancy categories demonstrated a moderate rise of 1.3 per cent and 0.5 per cent, respectively.
By comparison, quarterly trend in white diamond prices showed a decline of 2.8 per cent and 17.6 per cent over the previous 12 months.
According to the latest FCRF data, yellow diamond prices rose 2.1 per cent quarter-on-quarter and 6 per cent year-on-year. Pink diamonds meanwhile showed a quarterly increase of 1.1 per cent 0.2 per cent for blues.
FCRF board member Ephraim Zion explained, “The price increases reflect strong demand for yellow diamonds on the market as well as the strong competition in rough tenders. Despite some declines this quarter in white prices, fancy diamonds are continuing to show stable demand.”
The FCDI is published by non-profit FCRF, tracking pricing data for yellow, pink, and blue fancy colour diamonds in the major global trading centres of Hong Kong, New York, Geneva, and Tel Aviv.
