Rio Tinto has unveiled a rare jewellery piece featuring one of the last diamonds mined from the depleted Argyle mine in Australia. The piece is valued at AU$2 million (around US$1.33 million).
According to the Australia-based miner, the jewellery piece, named Argyle Rose™, can be worn as a ring or pendant and is the latest heirloom piece of Argyle Pink Diamonds™ jewellery.
Exclusively designed by Australian jeweller Solid Gold Diamonds, Argyle Rose™ is adorned with a total of 3.25 carats of Argyle pink and blue diamonds encrusted in a rose motif, surrounded by white diamonds, and set in platinum and 18-karat gold.
“The heart of this unique jewellery piece is an extremely rare 1.36-carat fancy deep pink radiant-cut diamond,” revealed Rio Tinto. “It is just one of 12 radiant-cut diamonds over one carat with a colour grading 1P from the last 30 years of production from Argyle. The surrounding petalled design of pink and blue Argyle Diamonds™ totals 1.89 carats, together with 2.80 carats of white diamonds.”
Argyle Rose™ was created as part of the Argyle Pink Diamonds Icon Partner™ programme, which aims to preserve the provenance and integrity of Argyle Pink Diamonds since mining at Argyle ceased in November 2020, after 37 years of operations and producing more than 865 million carats of rough diamonds. Argyle Rose™ will be available for sale through Solid Gold Diamonds in Perth.
