Singapore is significantly relaxing pandemic restrictions for travellers, benefitting large-scale international events such as Jewellery & Gem WORLD (JGW), which is temporarily relocating to the Lion City from Hong Kong this year.
From April 1, fully vaccinated tourists can take any flight or ferry to Singapore without the need for on-arrival tests or stay-home notice.
The updated rules also bode well for the events industry. Singapore is increasing the capacity limit for bigger gatherings with more than 1,000 people to 75 per cent from 50 per cent previously. People can also organise larger-scale social events, including gala dinners, dinner-dance and birthday celebrations. Congregational singing and cheering at events will also be allowed.
Wearing of masks outdoors will now be optional but remain mandatory indoors, especially at hawker centres, coffee shops, wet markets and public transportation.
Show organiser Informa Markets Jewellery earlier announced that it is temporarily relocating its flagship event, JGW, from Hong Kong to Singapore this September. The show will be called JGW Singapore.
This bold and strategic move aims to make the show venue more accessible to international suppliers and buyers clamouring for the in-person show experience. The venue change is a one-off special arrangement applicable only in 2022. JGW Singapore will be held from September 27 to 30 at Singapore EXPO. Complementing the Singapore wholesale buying event are special editions of Informa Markets Jewellery’s signature Jewellery & Gem fairs in Hong Kong in June and September.
In addition to JGW Singapore and the special-edition Hong Kong fairs, Informa Markets Jewellery will launch Jewellery & Gem ASEAN Bangkok (JGAB) from November 2 to 5. JGAB is a B2B cash-and-carry event especially focused on Southeast Asia-based buyers who need to restock instantly for the vital Christmas and New Year selling season. Informa Markets Jewellery’s 2022 agenda also includes 10 physical events in eight cities and five theme-based digital experiences.
