Prices of fancy colour diamonds rose steadily in 2021 on the back of solid demand for luxury diamond jewellery, according to the Fancy Color Research Foundation (FCRF).
An 89 per cent rise in the prices of all fancy colour categories was recorded in 2021 based on the latest FCRF Fancy Color Diamond Price Index. Price changes among all 128 categories ranged from a drop of 1.3 per cent to an increase of 7.9 per cent.
Average prices rose by 1.7 per cent in 2021, representing market recovery from 2020.
FCRF Advisory Board member Ephraim Zion explained, “The steady increase of the Fancy Color Diamond Price Index is more evidence of the stability of this luxury category. We see more people buying these beautiful natural diamonds while their supply diminishes.”
Throughout 2021, prices of blue diamonds were up 2.2 per cent while pinks surged 2 per cent and yellows grew 0.9 per cent. Average prices for fancy vivid diamonds rose 1.6 per cent. Fancy intense diamonds in all colours and sizes climbed by an average of 1.8 per cent except for fancy intense yellows of 1.5 and 5 carats, which fell 1.3 per cent and 1 per cent, respectively.
In Q4 2021, average prices of fancy colour diamonds rose 0.5 per cent, FCRF reported.
