Alrosa reported strong sales of rough and polished diamonds in November, which the Russian miner attributed to steady demand for diamond jewellery in key markets.
According to the company, sales in November this year reached US$334 million, representing a sustained four-month high but still down 14 per cent from the same period last year. Proceeds from rough diamond sales totalled US$310 million while polished sales hit US$24 million.
Year-to-date figures meanwhile reached almost US$4 billion, up 71 per cent from the same period in 2020.
“End demand for diamond jewellery in key markets keeps growing at a double-digit rate in Q4, driven by the unleashing of pent-up spending and higher confidence among the main consumer groups,” said Evgeny Agureev, deputy CEO of Alrosa. “Market players see increased demand for wedding jewellery and expect this trend to continue unabated in 2022.”
