Jewellery pieces adorned with white and fancy colour diamonds, jadeite and coloured gemstones were the stars of Christie’s Magnificent Jewels Autumn Auction, which achieved HK$498.28 million (around US$64 million).
The top lot was a pair of diamond earrings, featuring fancy vivid blue diamond centre stones of 3.06 carats and 2.61 carats. The item fetched HK$57.85 million (around US$7.45 million).
Another noteworthy offer was a set of jadeite, ruby and diamond necklace and bracelet by Cartier, which sparked a 10-minute competition between two phone bidders. The lot ultimately sold for HK$8.05 million (around US$1.03 million) – eight times the pre-sale low estimate of HK$1 million (around US$128,866).
Held on November 28 in Hong Kong, the event saw solid sell-through rates of 87 per cent by lot and by value and drew participation from buyers in 14 countries.
The autumn sale has pushed the company's annual auction total for this category in Asia to HK$1.15 billion (around U$$148 million).
Vickie Sek, chairman of Department of Jewellery at Christie’s Asia Pacific, commented, “The exceptional results and solid sell-through rates across our live and online-only sales in 2021 reflect a rapidly reviving market with robust demand.”
